Bitches Hike Too

Published by DutchBitch at 7:26 am under Uncategorized

dscn1396.jpgIt was a beautiful day yesterday. April 29, temps outside were up to 25 C (77 F). The DutchBitch was not gonna spend the day cooped up inside the appartment. Hell No!

I decided to drive up to the dunes and its forest and go hiking with The Kid. We’ve done the 7 km (4.3 mile) hike before and I love it. It’s a beautiful versatile scenery and especially on a sunny day, with a slight breeze going, it’s great to hike there.

The Kid and the proposal to go hiking? Nah… He’d rather stay in and play his GameBoy or watch TV… I try to get him psyched about going outside… Telling him that being outside and getting some exercise are good things. What am I saying? I couldn’t care less when I was a nine year old either… In fact, I couldn’t care less even a few years ago when I was still dragging ’round the extra 40 pounds.

Still, I love it now and he’d better deal with that! *snort* So make him come hiking with me. I know that once he?s out there, he loves it. It?s like me having to drag him into the shower every night and then when he?s in there, I have to drag him out again because he doesn?t wanna come out? *sigh*

So we bring the camera and the new binoculars I bought him the other day and we?re off. The hike was great. It was exquisite to be out in the sun, walking, talking, photographing? This time I took most of the photographs. You can view them HERE at my FlickR account. We stopped at the edge of a small lake overlooking “Bird Island”. You can’t go there, but there is a small bird watching hut there from which we watched the birds. We also saw a deer. I’ve been walking these dunes and their forest for years now but I’ve never seen a deer before! We tried to photograph it, but that didn’t work out too well…

Today is Queen’s Day in The Netherlands. Check out this post from a year ago to find out what that is all about. It is the first time in 5 years that The Kid is spending Queen?s Day at his dads. So I was planning on going to Amsterdam , but the girlfriend I would be going with cancelled. I have now decided on going to Leiden (the city I work at) instead with another girlfriend, who is incidently also my neighbour. We had a similar past 5-6 years and get on like a house on fire. We?ll be spending the afternoon on a Leiden terrace, having a drink, watching people go nuts… Weather is promising to be great so if all works out we?ll have a blast. We deserve to have a blast!

Holy Crap! I suddenly remembered that upcoming Saturday, May 5, will be the first anniversary of this blog! Wow… almost a whole year has gone by and I think I’ve hardly missed a day of blogging… Hmmm… Feels good! That might be a great day to launch my next competition. I’ve already decided on what it’s going to be about. Nah-ah… can’t disclose yet! Watch this space!

aaaaaaaah Queen’s Day! I was in amsterdam for queen’s day many years ago. All I remember is a ton of stuff to buy and people handing me beers along the way!

Looked like a beautiful day and a neat park! Queens’ Day reminded me to ask you a question. My Dutch grandfather(long departed) got a wooden pencil box as a school boy in The Netherlands. As the story goes, it had something to do with Queen Wilhelmina and perhaps her coronation? All the school children apparently got one-have you ever heard of this story? I still have the pencilbox!

Misfit Duck: Yeah, that’s about it, beer and crap stuff, LOL

Buffalodickdy: Do I look like I was around when Wilhelmina was crowned? Shit man! *off to put on more anti-aging lotion*

I love the pictures you took…..I wish my daughter was a little like your son. I cant get her in the house. If she is not outside digging holes in the yeard than she is climbing a tree and beating up the boys….Wanna trade kids?

  12. on 30 Apr 2007 at 6:33 pm

You have only been blogging a year? It has to be more than that!

As for the kid, if you drag him out now, when he is older he may choose hiking instead of video games. :)

  18. on 30 Apr 2007 at 10:17 pm

That sounds like so much fun!!! The extra weight really screws with you, doesn’t it? That’s why I’m in such a hurry to get it off!!!

  19. on 30 Apr 2007 at 10:28 pm

Amy: It does. I am happy I got it off. Did it all by myself, pretty proud of that, and am bursting with energy most of the time now. It is a very nice experience to be able to hike or cycle without being in pain or shortness of breath… You’ll get it off too I am sure! Just keep the Pilates Ball intact ;-)
