Panic at the Webcam
A while ago when The Guy was in New Yahk, he came on line before heading to bed, to talk to me on his webcam. I was at the office at the time. Shhh… I got online too and we talked on MSN a while during my coffeebreak… He told me that he had to get up at 7 a.m. to catch his flight to L.A. in order to catch his connecting flight to Down Under in time… and then he fell asleep without shutting down his webcam…
So for hours during work I snuck back to the MSN screen to see The Guy in a peaceful sleep… there’s something very comforting about that. Being the Long Distance Luvah to a man who is excrutiatingly busy and does not exactly keep normal regular schedules. To be able to just watch him sleep for a few hours (which is good in itself, as he doesn’t get a lot of that usually)… Soothing…
Yah!
UNTIL 7 a.m. came ’round.. and went…
Little before 7 a.m. I could hear the alarm on his Crackberry go off… I could see him reach for it, then shut it off and put it down and… fall asleep again.. I figured he’d put it on repeat, so no problem… then about 20 minutes later I could hear it go off again… and the afore mentioned repeated itself… again… he fell asleep… again…
The Crackberry alarm didn’t go off anymore… evah…
Sure enough 7.30 a.m. came ’round and I was getting a tad worried by that time… I knew his schedule was tight… So I decided to send an sms to the Crackberry. I could hear the sms come in… The Guy? Not a cringe… So I sent him an email on his Crackberry as that gives a different sound when it comes in… Again, I could hear it come in and he didn’t even blink, wiggle or sniff…
Err… yah… So I decided to call the Crackberry… I dialed his number… I could hear the Crackberry ring… The Guy? Again, not a cringe…
I was kinda sorta starting to freak out a tadddddd…
The Guy had told me which hotelchain he was in and he had shown me the view from his window, which is kinda sorta a landmark… So I Googled “Hotel X” – “location Y” – “New Yahk“… And found the switchboard telephone number for the hotel. I called the hotel and had them put me through to The Guy’s room.
AGAIN I COULD HEAR THE FRIGGIN PHONE RING AND THE GUY REMAINED OUT COLD!!!
I tried it again and nuttin’…
Can you imagine what it is like to be on one end of a webcam, seeing someone seriously oversleep, and not being able to do a damned thing about it? Holy Fucking Crap! I just wanted to reach thru the screen, grab his ass, shake it and scream “WAKE THE FUCK UUUUUPPPPP!!!!!”
* sigh *
Sure enough, 10 minutes later, he woke up. His only comment to me MSN-ing to him that he overslept and telling him all I had tried to wake him up was “Uhm.. yep, I overslept“. Then he got up, started packing his suitcase, during which his tardy ass even found some time to do some serious stripper moves in front of the webcam… While I was in my o-p-e-n . s-p-a-c-e . o-f-f-i-c-e…
He did thank me later for the effort… Which he told me was much appreciated… Yah, thanks Babe.. I suck as a girlfriend cuz it didn’t work! I couldn’t wake you up… He also told me that in fact he díd miss his flight to L.A. and had to get the next one, which required him to sprint his way thru L.A.X. to make it to his flight to Down Under. Maybe he should have refrained from doing the stripper moves.. and just gotten his ass packed without it… But Hon? Those were much appreciated too, heh…
Aww, it’s almost as if you’re right there with him! Wouldn’t it have been awful if he didn’t realize the cam was on, looked at his phone, saw it was you and then put it back down? LOL I’m just thinking of what my worst fear would be in that situation….that or some girl coming into the room! Aggggh!

Well, I just wrote a really long comment but forgot to fill in ANY of the required fields. Recap:
Dawg and I talk on the phone, sometimes he falls asleep, I love listening to him snooze.
Don’t feel guilty that Rob missed his plane, you wouldn’t even have known he didn’t get up if he hadn’t left the webcam on.
But… I’ve totally panicked over worrying that Dawg didn’t get up on time after he specifically asked me to be his alarm clock on an occasion or two. He recommends that I get a tougher skin and be more persistent (read ANNOYING) about getting him up.

How very helpless you must have felt; too bad you can’t reach through the screen and shake him around.
I’m a heavy sleeper too. The house next door to my parents burnt down when I was younger. I slept through the whole thing, sirens and all.

I know it didn’t really feel like it, but that was really awesome. I could picture you watching him sleep peacefully and the feeling it must have given you. I know that it was hard to watch him over sleep, but the lengths that you went to in order to wake him up were touching. I’m sure he felt your love too. And the stripper moves?
