Baby Time!

Posted at 7:00 am under WTF?

Heh! Yeah, I bet THAT title had you shocked didn’t it? Get your minds outta there, nothing of the sort! And to The Guy : Hon? Once you have recovered from the heart attack this title might have caused… no worries…

It IS babytime at DutchBitch Casa though… Cuz umm… I’ve had these 2 little orange fishies -I fondly call those my Japanese Fighting Fish *insert sarcasm* - roaming around the fishbowl over here for errr.. about 3 years now… I got them from the pet store and they are sold just in the female variety… supposedly…

How-e-ver… when I was getting ready to clean the fishbowl the other day… I saw some tiny tiny orange parts floating around the bowl… wait… hang on… they were not floating… they were swimming… I hovered closer over the bowl and… WTF!?!?! There was 3 tiny tiny tiny baby fish floating around in there! WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?!

Three years those two bitches lounged around in my fishbowl… what am I saying… they were slacking off being useless in there… and now… NOW… three tiny little orange baby fish… One for each wasted year I guess… Hardly visible, that’s how tiny they are…

I wonder what happened… Were they guy/girl to begin with but were they just not that “into” each other but now after 3 years of no fresh meat they gave up the reluctance and had it off? Just the once? Did she have multiple orgasms? Or did they both? Simultaneously? Or were they 2 girls and by some freakish process of nature one became male? Or one of them reproduced by itself? Am I looking at a unique event here? Do I even want to know?

So yeah, we (me and The Kid) became errr… uncle and aunty? grandma and grandpa? Well, whatever, to 3 tiny little orange fishies… So I guess we need to name them… And err… Hope that it will be some time before those fuckers start reproducing… Anyone wanna sign up for some Original DutchBitch Fighting Fish?

Umm. Hello? Where did everyone go all of a sudden?

Okay, thanks for the major fright before I’ve finished my first cup of tea! Geeeeeez I almost lost a keyboard! :rage:
I’m wondering if Fighting Fish are the kind that eat their young? Is it time for a second tank?

I assume they might have eventually wondered what this little thing that’s hitchy sometimes on their body could be useful for?
One said, in a fishy language, “hey it’s funny it seems I can stick it in yours”. The other said “oh you’re a weirdo but ok if that can please you, give it a try”.
After a little while there were some “oh” and “ah” and lots of bubbles but you didn’t pay attention.
Now there are babies and they must be wondering “WTF have we done?”
    :dunno

You may want to consider getting a second bowl for the babies. They are still tiny and can be food the the grownups. Just sayin’ Oh and don’t bother naming them just in case that happens. :sideways:

  10. DutchBitchon 07 Jul 2008 at 6:03 pm 10

Penelope: Nah, the “kids” seem fine and if not I’ll l nature take its course cuz I just can’t afford a 2nd tank. For now, they’ve been fine for over a week.

    d-man: Thanks!

    FroggyWoogie: LMAO!!! :jump:

    LadyJaye: It is! Isn’t it?

    Absurdist: That and more :doubt:

Marty: I JUST had a contest! I can’t afford more prizes!

Robin: LOL, or reaaaaallly careful… :sex:

If you have an animal research center nearby or if there is one at the medical center where you work you might want to ask someone to look into a possible case of spontaneous fish parthenogenesis. It is very common in plants and invertebrates but rarely reported in mammals — though not unheard of at all. It could be a nice anecdotal supportive case for someone doing research in the field!

Or I could be studying too much and need to get my butt to the gym!

  13. DutchBitchon 07 Jul 2008 at 8:11 pm 13

Nikki: So ehm… You DO realize that Rob said the very same thing to me a few days ago, right? You two freak me out, lol. Go to the gym!!! :glasses:

So you didn’t notice one of them laying against the side of the bowl smoking a cigarette, whispering, “Was it good for you, baby?” Seriously, some fish (and amphibians, too) have the ability to change sexes when there are insufficient numbers of the opposite sex around. I guess they flipped a coin.
