Lazy Sunday Afternoon

This weekend was the first in a long time with sun, sun, some clouds, and more sun! Now my appartment has a tiny little balcony that faces northeast, so it has sun from early morning till about 1 p.m. The other side of the appartment does not have any patio or balcony, like at all… So on a nice day, after 1 p.m. I am pretty much fucked… And I have to go outside to enjoy more of the sun. Now… with payday not being till today (OMG, today is payday! yay!) I didn’t have much money to go to the beach (astronomical parking prices out there) or to sit on the patio part of a bar or restaurant (astronomical prices for drinks and so busy on days like this)… But I just hád to go outside yesterday and enjoy the sun and summery feeling, before being cooped up inside the office for a week, again.

So I baked some bread rolls in the oven (shush, Zenbitch!), I cooked some pasta and whipped up a cold pasta dish with pesto and olive oil, got some left over salad from the fridge, whipped up a fruit salad with the strawberry’s, grapes and kiwi’s I had left, stuffed some drinks and the Saturday paper and some toys for The Kid in a bag and we were off!

We drove over to Amsterdam, parked our car at the edge of the center, underneath the old Olympic stadium (only 6 euro’s – US$ 7.78 / £ 4,87 – for parking there all day (!) which includes 2 free tickets for the tram to get into the city center), we caught the tram to Museumplein and walked over to the Vondelpark.

The Vondelpark is a large urban park, freely accessible, that is situated in the middle of the city center of Amsterdam. On days like these it is a melting pot of people from all walks of life. Hundreds of people come into the park, to meet up, eat, drink, talk, dance, make music, play soccer, enjoy the sun, whatever you can think of.

I love being there and looking at the people in the crowd, just sitting down in the grass. We had everything from Greek, to hiphop, to African live music around us. Pensioners, students, mummy’s, daddy’s, kids of all ages. The park was packed and it was fun and everyone was relaxed -some clearly as a result of smoking pot, phwooaarrr- and I had a very nice few hours with The Kid. We just lay down in the grass, on our backs, having some snacks, drinks, talking… Wonderful!

That was the perfect Lazy Sunday Afternoon… A great time with a limited budget is possible. Wish I could’ve taken you guys with me! I know you would ALL have loved it. Hey Dave? Maybe we should do Bitchterdam in summer in the Vondelpark! Ya know, with good food, great fellow bloggers, and bringing our own wine, vodka and ok, just for you, a chilled bottle of Jägermeister and at least one blogger with a guitar? Make it a bit more something like a Woodstock thing? Bitchterstock? Woodbitch? Woodbitchterdam?

You know, I totally wasn’t going to say anything about you and the oven and bread. Nothing @ all. I’m quite sure the Great Bread Burning of 2008 was a one of!! The park pictures look great! I wanna be there! I also want those red shoes. Will they fit into your bag you’re bringing to ConFab? We do wear the same size, after all!! :razz

Sounds like your lazy sunday was better than mine, at least in the sunshine department.

I had a lazy Sunday that ended up being more busy in the late afternoon and evening, but still lazy to some degree. It involved lots of rain and many mojitos.
