Project Bulbfield – September

Published by DutchBitch under Project Bulbfield

Goodmorning to September 30 and the last installment of  “Project Bulbfield“! I can’t believe that a year has gone by of photographing this one bulbfield every month. It has become quite a nice series, even if I do say so myself and I hope you have enjoyed it.

Behold the last picture in the series: “our” bulbfield at the end of September. Soon it will be filled with bulbs again, holding a flowery blooming promise for next Spring, when the fields no doubt will be showing their colorful splendor again.

So there you go. One year of “Project Bulbfield”. Next month, in October, I will do an overview of this whole year of “Project Bulbfield”, so you can see all pictures of the past year again.

Now… I have to go and get busy. It’s Hellish Wednesday again, filled with work, groceries, running The Kid back and forth to school and basketbal practice, errands and all that shit. Tata!

Elk Lovin’ is Spesjul Lovin’

Published by DutchBitch under Aunty DutchBitch, Funny Shit

So The Mom recently went on a short vacation with one of her girlfriends and they, amongst other’s, visited Göteborg in Sweden. And The Mom wouldn’t be The Mom if she hadn’t brought a small souvenir for all of us.

The Lill Niece got quite a special treat in fact. A mug, with Sweden’s national animal on there: The Elk.

Only… the mug she got was… um… kinda “special”

Phoneconversation between The Sis and The Mom, recently:
The Sis: “Oh, by the way, thank you sooooooo much for that mug you brought for your granddaughter
The Mom: “Did she like it? It was cute, wasn’t it?
The Sis: “Well, umm… I am not sure cute is the right word for it
The Mom: “Oh, what do you mean?
The Sis: “Did you get a good look at the mug?
The Mom: “Yes, there were 2 elks on there cuddling and in love
The Sis: “Umm… yes and then some
The Mom: “Huh? What?

This was the mug that she had brought for the, soon to be 2 year old, Lill Niece, the front side:

Harmless enough, right? Yeah, well THIS is the other side of the mug:

2

Yeah, now we all know that young people grow up way faster these days than we used to. Then again, there is such a thing as pushing the issue…

A lot of “oooooooooh myyyy gooooooooodddd” ’s came out of The Mom’s mouth when she was confronted with the mug on her next visit with The Sis… We’ll just keep this one locked up in the cupboard when the Lill Niece is ready for it, when she’s 35 or summin’.

And some people wonder where I get that nasty depraved mind from… Ha!

Non-famous people are not newsworthy

Published by DutchBitch under Rant

So one of the breaking news stories in Dutchyland the past week was the downfall of The Entertainment Group. TEG (for short) is was the leading entertainment company in the northwestern part of Europe, operating from Dutchyland, Belgium and Finland. Their head office was based in Dutchyland. The company was owned by one of the leading Dutch artists/singers Marco Borsato, and did management for many other famous Dutch artists and organized concerts and such, amongst which the “Symphonica in Rosso” annual concert series, which, in a few weeks, is featuring Diana Ross. Needless to say that this company was a big’un’, and so is it’s down fall.

They went bankrupt, because a few of the management moguls made the wrong decisions. They took money from one part of the company and started investing in new activities, way outside of the original scope of the company, that clearly did not pay off. Stupid decisions, huge consequences. Marco Borsato, and some of his colleagues who invested in the company, lost a lot of money. Marco Borsato lost nearly everything he has worked for in the past years and years. Concerts were cancelled, and more of that shit. I know that’s bad.

layoffNow don’t get me wrong. I do feel that losing everything you have worked hard, whether you are an artist or any other kind of person, is bad. It sucks big time and I am not patronizing that in any way. But what bugs me BIG time is how the whole of Dutchyland, and all news broadcasts holler about “poor” Marco Borsato and how he’s lost everything. And how depressed he is and how bad he feels. I feel for him, I really do. But everyone is forgetting about all those people working for TEG that LOST THEIR EFFING JOBS! People that in the current economical crisis will have a hard time finding a new job. “Normal regular” people, who do not have a famous face. Who do not have a golden throat and a star status to depend upon.

Again, don’t get me wrong. I do realize that it sucks for him too. And I know for a fact that he himself dóes feel responsible for everyone he works for because every interview he does he does put emphasis on the people that worked for TEG and who now are out of a job. And he worked his ass off to try and save the company in order to be able to save their jobs.

It’s just that Dutch news broadcasters could do with getting their heads out of their asses and report on for whom it really is worst, this breakdown of this company. Marco Borsato and his fellow famous artists will not suffer any decline in their fame. They have not just “lost their jobs”. They will be able to do new concerts, performances, as nobody has lost faith in their ability to sing and perform. They will make a new album and start selling concert tickets. These are activities that óther people and organizations are taking the financial risk for. These are things that will enable them to get back on their feet within a year. These are things that earn them a lot of money in a short amount of time.

The families of the employees of TEG will not be that lucky. Unless they manage to find a new job, they will be up shit creek and I hate it that Dutch news broadcasters are closing their eyes to it, consequently making the Dutch public feel sorry for well earning Dutch artists and forgetting about the people that really got hurt… But I guess news like that doesn’t “pay”, right?

Cake Goddess

Published by DutchBitch under Family, Wow

I am a pretty good cook, even if I say so myself. Baking however, is not my forté. I am great at making apple pie, and I cán do a cheesecake, if I really have to, but that is it. Don’t even tálk to me about decorating a cake…

Now, my sister, she is the Cake Goddess in our family. Seriously!

On October 9 it’s the Lill Niece’s birthday and the other day she sent me a picture of a “testcake” she did for her daughter’s birthday.

Miffy cake

Yeah, it’s a cake with Miffy on it. One of the Lill Niece’s favorite book and cartoon characters. The Sis is not so much into Miffy, although she is learning to “accept” Miffy in her life now. Just like she is learning to accept Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Lala and Po into her life, but that’s a whole different story.

Anyway, this is the “real” Miffy character.

And that cake picture up there, yeah, so that’s The Sis’ *grmbbllhh* FIRST test run of making a cake like that… Imagine what the real damn cake on the birthday will look like. Gawd, I wish I could do that stuff. I am so proud of my Little Siss! She is awesome! (in more ways than just making cake, I might add)…

I’ll let you know, on October 9, after I taste it, what it was like, but I am pretty sure it will be yummmmm-ey!!!
